FREEDOM

ALOHA FAMILY AND FRIENDS,  Beloved of God,  John 3:16

“FREEDOM”    WORTH CONSIDERING   2/11/19   (Across my desk this morning)

Today’s Scripture
“I will maintain my innocence and never let go of it; my conscience will not reproach me as long as I live.”  (Job 27:6, NIV)

Follow your Conscience
God speaks to us in many ways. One way is through that “small voice” we call our conscience. In many cases, that’s the voice of the Holy Spirit prompting you to be good to someone, or it might be warning you about a situation that otherwise seems fine! When you feel uneasiness and unrest, the Lord may be saying, “Watch out, there’s danger ahead.” That’s not just your nerves, it’s God protecting you. If you ignore these warnings, you could experience heartache and pain. Is the Holy Spirit placing warning signs in front of you today? When you sense these warning signs, you have a choice to make. God won’t make you do the right thing. You have your own free will. It’s up to you to choose the right road. Refuse to compromise. Don’t compromise in your marriage, your business or with your family. Listen to the still, small voice inside that warns you of impending danger. When you do, God will guide you along the best path for your life.

A Prayer for Today
“God, I am grateful that I have the power to make the right choices today. I know what is right and what is wrong. When my conscience speaks to me, I pray that I will listen and stay on the right path so my life will glorify You. In Jesus’ name – Amen.”

My comments:
The Key to being free is to really know your conscience is hearing the Holy Spirit.   This can be somewhat confusing.   As far as I am concerned I can tune into voices  from everywhere.  Last night I was dreaming that I was in the Philippines in a whole different life style and a lot younger…. where did that come from?   Folks often tell me that a voice that comes to them and says, “I want a cigarette.” is not theirs as they are 110% against smoking.  Jesus was severely tested in the wilderness with the same 3 temptations of Eve:  Lust of the flesh, lust of the spirit and pride of life.   These are voices that Paul writes about in Rom.7:14-20.    And God never  ever tempts us, James 1:13.   He may allow us to be tested/tempted if we need to learn the lesson of sowing and reaping by experience,  Rom. 8:13-14,  as per Job….

So how do we know when our conscience is accurate and on tract as the conscience must be trained.  Our knowledge of good and bad in the world is not automatic upon birth.  Give two 1 yr. old babies one bottle in a crib together and see what happens.  I grew up as a child in a small town in Kentucky with the 10 commandments by the light switch in my classroom,  we prayed before class,  gave the pledge to allegiance,  sang hymns and songs and then learned reading, writhing, arithmetic,  history and geography.  And at that time an 8th grade education was equal to a 12th grade education today and by 14 most went to work on a farm or mine.  And many were married soon after.  So as a kid I got most of my conscience from school, not from home or church.   I came out of there with love and respect for God, Country, Family and 4th of July.  That is not happening today.   So how do we train our Conscience to hear only the Holy Spirit….  (Not going to happen.)   But we can train our Conscience to know the differences between all the different voices.

Over the years I have learned that the Holy Spirit is never in a hurry but always on time.   That He is never condemning condescending or noisy.   The Holy Spirit always speaks with gentle peaceful loving authority and there is such an assuredness  and graciousness in HIS quiet strong voice.  He does not shout down the negative voices.  We all need  to learn to listen for him above all the other racket.   Jesus said, “My sheep hear my voice and another they will not follow.” John 10:27    Second, The Holy Spirit will always be totally in agreement with the Holy Scriptures that are in context with all the  other texts on the same subject.  So to know the WORD of GOD,  especially the New Testament is a must to strain out the other garbage voices and especially our own.   “For as many as are led by the Spirit of God,  they are the sons of God,”  Rom. 8:14.    Yours in HIS great love,   Ken<><

FORGIVENESS

ALOHA FAMILY AND FRIENDS,  Beloved of God,  John 3:16

FORGIVENESS:   2/10/19   This came across my desk this morning,  not really Christian,  but exceptionally sensitive to the Truth.

Hey There, it’s the Sherpa,   Recently I got into an argument with a family member and we both let it stew for a week before we resolved our disagreement.   Fortunately, we both crossed the isle and made amends, but the week prior to resolution I underwent a lot of stress and my sleep was horrible.   We all know it’s impossible to spend a day on planet earth without feeling the effects of conflict and emotional pain. Maybe someone wounded you… or you wounded someone else and if we’re honest with ourselves, we can recognize that unresolved conflict can disrupt our health.

The Mind/Body Connection
Emotional wounds can leave you with lasting feelings of anger and bitterness and even vengeance, but if you don’t practice forgiveness, you may be the one who pays dearly.   Forgiveness means different things to different people but generally we all understand that it involves an active decision to let go of resentment and the thoughts of revenge.   While the injustice and hurt may always be with you, forgiveness can lesson its grip and help free you from the control of the other person who harmed you.   As we all continue our journey towards a healthier life, I want to remind you and encourage you today of the powerful advantage that forgiveness can make in all our lives.   Letting go of bitterness can clear a path for improved health and peace of mind which means…

  • Lower blood pressure
  • Less anxiety, hostility and stress
  • Improved self-esteem
  • Healthier relationships
  • A strong immune system

So how about you?   Are you aware of unforgiveness that has hurt you and damaged your health?   Have you held onto an injustice that has cause stress and anxiety and disrupted your health, mood and sleep?   What does forgiveness mean to you?   I’d love to hear your story and learn how you have used the mind/body connection to improve your overall health?   Please hit reply and share your story.   Naturally Yours,   The Sherpa

Lots of scriptures to support this mind/body/soul connection for good health.   By they way,  Sue got home safely from her trip and it was good to have her home.   My love to you and yours,  may you have a very Blessed day,   Ken<><

US DEBT.

Since the U.S. spends almost a third of its revenue on interest payments alone, it doesn’t seem like it can afford to pay much more.  And Klarman isn’t the only billionaire expressing unease. At the World Economic Forum in Davos, Switzerland, Ray Dalio, founder of the world’s largest hedge fund, said that debt would be to blame for the next downturn, which he believes will be bigger than the Great Depression.  “The biggest issue is that there is only so much one can squeeze out of a debt cycle and most countries are approaching those limits”.     You might think the U.S. government would do everything to curb this problem. But according to the Congressional Budget Office, the debt is projected to skyrocket to $33 trillion by 2029

My Comments:
Might consider getting some 25 year dried food and some extra TP,  soap, matches and stuff…  As if this hits it will happen overnight.  There will not be a slow slid down the hill,  it will be like a drop off over a cliff.  In 1929 many millionaires were rich one day and jumping off of high buildings the next.  The Children of Israel had a debt clearing every 50 years.  It was a 50 yr. reset where all debts were cancelled.  So in knowing this debt reduction was automatic and what debt that was left at the Golden Jubilee was totally cancelled.   It has been 90 years now from the last U.S. Debt reset so we are way past due.  Of course, the Good Book says,  ” The borrower is servant to the lender.”  So best to not be in debt at all.    Ken<><

Soul is Eternal

Aloha Saints, Sinners, Friends and Family,
Often we get lost in our own little cosmic world of emotional truth. It is truth because we say it is without any objective Biblical support whatever. The reason we need the Holy Scriptures is to give us a source of objective truth from God that HE has spoken through HIS prophets over thousands of years all saying the same thing as to what is HIS TRUTH. HIS Truth sets us free from sin. Our emotional supposed truth only brings us in to bondage. 2 Tim.3:16-17, Psalms 119:9-12

The word sin was taken from an old English archery match where to miss the center of the target was called a sin. With us Christians the center of the target is Christ Jesus. To not be like Christ Jesus is to sin. Attached to today’s “Worth Considering” you will find an objective report card list that will easily show us all the reason that we all truly need a SAVIOR and LORD to make it into the Totally Righteous Kingdom of God.

If you would like to study some 52 basic doctrines of God’s Truth for us, let me know. A really great Biblical Foundation that all true Christians should have.

Your soul is designed by God to live for eternity. Only in this life you have the opportunity to choose to live with GOD in righteousness or to live alone in darkness for eternity. I truly hope you choose wisely. Blessings, Ken<>< www.Trinity-Aloha.org Official: Our New Mailing address: 85-4554 Mamalahoa Hwy, Capt. Humility

Being 85 and nearing 86 in a few months, LORD willing and the lava don’t rise is a very interesting study in humility for me.

It is almost like the LORD realizes our need to become humble later in life and has set the stage for it to happen. Things that I did 10 years ago and did not even think about I now look for someone younger and with better balance to do. Don’t get me wrong, I enjoy being 85, it is a brand new experience for me.

This morning I found that the oat meal (a favorite breakfast) was on the top shelf of the kitchen cabinets and needing a ladder to get to. No one around, wife gone to work. So got the little step stool out and started up the steps. And then said to myself, what are you doing here with your bad balance? If you fall, you would put those you love in a very bad way to take care of you and the mending process just might not go as well as it use to. So very carefully I got my oatmeal and had my breakfast, cleaned up my mess and the put the oats in the freezer this time for the next time with kitchen stool ladder not needed. I also Still have my bike license, and that also is a no, no…..

My mind is still really pretty sharp but this house that I am living in is really getting worn out. Should have taken better care of it. Now if I eat much red meat the gout in my feet feel like walking on broken glass. But I try to stay away from red meat , I still get things done PTL… But much more limited. So not so much by my own doing any more but by those who I can find to help. Had heavy boxes stored on shelves today, looks great, that I had been looking at for a week to be stored but just too much for me to do. So the concept of humility settled in a little deeper today in my world. The word humility is rather interesting when used in the Bible.

A fool always loses his temper, but a wise man holds it back. (NAS, Proverbs 29:11)
My dear brothers, take note of this: Everyone should be quick to listen, slow to speak and slow to become angry, for man’s anger does not bring about the righteous life that God desires. (NIV, James 1:19-20)

“‘Do not seek revenge or bear a grudge against one of your people, but love your neighbor as yourself. I am the LORD. (NIV, Leviticus 19:18)

An angry man stirs up dissension, and a hot-tempered one commits many sins. (NIV, Proverbs 29:22)

Do not boast about tomorrow, for you do not know what a day may bring forth. Let another praise you, and not your own mouth; someone else, and not your own lips. (NIV, Proverbs 27:1-2)

When pride comes, then comes dishonor, but with the humble is wisdom. The integrity of the upright will guide them, but the falseness of the treacherous will destroy them. (NAS, Proverbs 11:2-3)

Humility and the fear of the LORD bring wealth and honor and life. (NIV, Proverbs 22:4)

“But the greatest among you shall be your servant. “And whoever exalts himself shall be humbled; and whoever humbles himself shall be exalted. (NAS, Matthew 23:11-12)

And [Jesus] called a child to Himself and set him before them, and said, “Truly I say to you, unless you are converted and become like children, you shall not enter the kingdom of heaven. “Whoever then humbles himself as this child, he is the greatest in the kingdom of heaven. (NAS, Matthew 18:2-4)

And the other side of humility is a willing heart to be obedient as was Moses and Jesus. So it would seem that I am now entering a school to learn humility and obedience to my LORD in a way that can not be avoided that goes much deeper than ever before.

Love you much in Christ Jesus and hope you make it into HIS KINGDOM. Yours, in HIS great love, Ken<><

Glory

Today I have a pile of boxes in the carport of Books I have collected over the years to sort as to what to keep and what to pass along. My new library shelving is perhaps a 1/3 of what I had at the Inn. I have a lot of translations of the Bible. Seems a lot of Biblical Scholars have spent much time trying to make the Word of God more easily understood. As I go through the translations I use John 8 to help me know if the scholar was accurate. In John 8:24 where it says “…for if you believe not that I am he, ye shall die in your sins.” In most of the translations the he has been included but is not in the Greek. The passage should read, “…for if you believe not that I AM, ye shall die in your sins.” (Augmented by context: Unless you believe that I AM the one who gave the 10 Commandments to Moses, you shall die in your sins.) Three times in John 8 Jesus confirms this 3 different ways. See if you can find them.

For me this is very important as when I place Christ Jesus in that place of creative authority for eternity. It changes HIS commandments from being perhaps to being imperative or of being extremely important for my eternal salvation. In other words the Faith that is required for our salvation must also sanctify us and change us into being like Christ Jesus, 1 John 4:17. There is no room for emotional feel good theology based on old invalid traditions.

But that really was not what really got to my heart in the course of sorting and deciding what to keep. What really got to me in that chapter was the word Glory in verse 50-54 in that Jesus came not to seek HIS own Glory or to Honor himself. That He came to Glorify and Honor the Heavenly Father, through HIS love, humility, faith and obedience. That is was what motivated HIM, HIS love for the Heavenly Father and to hallow His name. “Hallowed be Thy name.”

So I did a little soul searching on what motivates me and began to see how I really do like the praises of men and from my family. And often, subtly manipulate to try to make it happen. So I took it to heart to begin to learn to totally seek to live my life as Jesus did to live only to make my Heavenly Father happy. And to trust to HIS judgment in the resurrection as to any Honor or Glory. Of course as our Heavenly Father is LOVE for those who love and obey Jesus it should make all happy, but, NOT ALWAYS. And I am well aware that living this kind of a life will attract persecution and usually from those who are closest. As you find the Heavenly Father’s will and walk it out in life, not many will understand. The roads of temporal values and eternal values are two totally different roads. So 100 years from now, what is going to be important? Our souls are created to be eternal. It is only a matter of placement. I truly hope you choose wisely.

Yours, in HIS great love and wonderful grace and mercy, Ken<>< www.Trinity-Aloha.org I ran across a statement by Smith Wigglesworth today as a second witness to this truth. “Great faith is the product of great fights. Great testimonies are the outcome of great tests. Great triumphs can only come out of great trials.: “It is impossible to overestimate the importance of being filled with the Spirit.” “Before God could bring me to this place He has broken me a thousand times.” “The secret of spiritual success is a hunger that persists... It is an awful condition to be satisfied with one’s spiritual attainments... God was and is looking for hungry, thursty people.” It is better to live ready than to get ready!” “God has privileged us in Chirst Jesus to live above the ordinary human plan of life. Those who want to be ordinary and live on a lower plane can do so, but as for me, I will not.’ Smith Wigglesworth.

Predestination/Foreknowledge

Predestination and Foreknowledge,

The following came across my desk today: Sounded a little like predestination but is not. It is actually foreknowledge, Rom.8:29. So it seems that in God’s dimension of eternity God, He clearly sees those hearts that were willing to truly make HIM LORD and He sets up the circumstances in advance to assist them.

Freewill is absolutely essential in making love real. So in order to fashion us in HIS image and likeness he had to allow for freewill as HE is LOVE. Gen.1:27. Unfortunately we also gained access to the Lust of the eyes, lust of the flesh and pride of life and have made some very poor choices in life. However, some of us still would like to be HIS workmanship and truly submit to Christ Jesus as LORD, (master, king, boss, pres. commander.) and start over. So the following works really well when guided by the Holy Spirit according to the Holy Scriptures. But it really tanks when we are egocentric and reject the way of the LORD but then still expect HIS blessings. We need to learn to walk with HIM and not try to make HIM walk with us. Yours in HIS great love and wonderful grace and mercy in Christ Jesus. Ken Smith<>< www.Trinity-Aloha.org There is but one Church of Christ Jesus and all who love and obey HIM are members. Yours in HIS great love, Ken<>< 6/6/18 Good thoughts (not mine) so I am just passing them along. "For we are His workmanship, created in Christ Jesus for good works, which God prepared beforehand so that we would walk in them." (Ephesians 2:10, NASB) God has already prepared paths for you to take in your future! When God laid out the plan for your life, He lined up the right people, the right circumstances, and the right breaks. In your future, He’s already released favor, supernatural opportunities, and divine connections. The breaks you need in life have already been preordained to come across your path. If you will stay in faith and go out each day and be a person of excellence, you’ll walk into these appointments of favor. It will be just as if you stumbled into God’s blessings! When you really understand this principle, you’ll begin to get excited about the opportunities in every single day! You’ll have a spring in your step as you think about what blessing is coming next. It could be today. It could be tomorrow. It could be next week! Keep expecting. Keep believing. Stay focused on the fact that God has already released into your future everything you need to fulfill your destiny. Start declaring seasons of increase over your life. Declare that favor is on you and opportunities are coming. Then, get ready to move forward in the favor and blessing God has ordered for you! A Prayer for Today "Father, thank You for setting up a good life for me. Thank You for ordering blessings for my future. Help me to know Your ways so that I can walk with You in the paths You have for me all the days of my life in Jesus name. Amen."

Shepherd

Across my desk this morning.

SHEPHERD: 5/19/18 “WORTH CONSIDERING”

Today’s Scripture
“Surely goodness and mercy shall follow me all the days of my life; and I will dwell in the house of the Lord forever.”
(Psalm 23:6, NKJV)

What’s Chasing You?
In the Bible, David was known as a man after God’s own heart. What kind of attitude did he have? Here in Psalm 23, he says, “Goodness and mercy are following me.” David lived with an attitude of expectancy. One translation says, “God’s kindness chases me everywhere that I go.” David’s attitude was “something good is going to happen to me. Everywhere I go, I know God’s blessings are chasing me. Favor is following me around.” No wonder he saw God’s goodness! No wonder he overcame his obstacles and accomplished great dreams. He knew good things were chasing after him.

Do you know what’s chasing you right now? Not debt. Not failure. Not mediocrity. Not defeat. Not lack. Not at all! You are a child of the Most High God. You have been crowned with favor. You have been redeemed from every curse. God has set you apart as His own special treasure. When you look back in your rear view mirror, you’d better get ready because you have a tailgater! There’s something coming toward you at a high rate of speed. You know what it is? Blessings, favor, supernatural opportunities, restoration, divine connections—God’s goodness and mercy following you all the days of your life!

A Prayer for Today
“Father, thank You for Your abundant grace and mercy. Today I look for Your goodness. I look for Your favor and blessings. I set my heart on You. Show me Your love in a new way today in Jesus’ name. Amen.”

My Comments:
Of course Content without Context is Pretext. There are “conditions” for the above verse to be effective. Lets look at the rest of Psalm 23 for those conditions that make the above effective. Psalm 23 Amplified Bible, Classic Edition (AMPC)
A Psalm of David. 1 The Lord is my Shepherd [to feed, guide, and shield me], I shall not lack. 2 He makes me lie down in [fresh, tender] green pastures; He leads me beside the still and restful waters. 3 He refreshes and restores my life (my self); He leads me in the paths of righteousness [uprightness and right standing with Him—not for my earning it, but] for His name’s sake. 4 Yes, though I walk through the [deep, sunless] valley of the shadow of death, I will fear or dread no evil, for You are with me; Your rod [to protect] and Your staff [to guide], they comfort me. 5 You prepare a table before me in the presence of my enemies. You anoint my head with [a]oil; my [brimming] cup runs over. 6 Surely or only goodness, mercy, and unfailing love shall follow me all the days of my life, and through the length of my days the house of the Lord [and His presence] shall be my dwelling place.

1. The LORD (Christ Jesus) Is totally submitted to as the shepherd. (Many so called Christians are not even here.)

2. Christ Jesus is guiding us by the Holy Spirit which means we can hear HIS voice.

3. We have submitted to LORD in being made and also becoming really righteous.

4. The rod and staff were strength and authority are needed and used for the life journey. Might consider them as being in “REAL” faith, Heb.11 and the Word of God.

5. Oil relates to the Holy Spirit as being the guide and covering with power.

6. Then Goodness and Mercy shall follow me all the days of my life and I will dwell in the house of the LORD forever.

So to walk in GOD’s Truth and Freedom mean to check the context through all of the Holy Scriptures on a subject. Out of context will lead into apostasy. The Bible teaches, “Judas went out and hanged himself” in one place. And in another, “Go Thou and do likewise.” Put those together out of context and you have a serious problem. But it is True that if you decide to really make Jesus Lord and follow the Holy Spirit into sanctification that you will be very blessed of GOD.

Love in Jesus, Ken<><

Apostolic Restoration

Aloha Saints, Sinners, Friends and Family,

APOSTOLIC RESTORATION

This article came across my desk this morning with a good understanding of the difference between Apostle and Pastor as listed by Paul in Eph.4:11-16 for the perfecting of the Church of Christ Jesus. Long but important.
Yours, in HIS great love and wonderful grace and mercy. Ken<>< www.Trinity-Aloha.org A Prophetic Word About the Apostolic Restoration to the Kingdom 9:00AM EDT 5/17/2018 Vince Viozzi One thing that will make this revival different than all the rest is the apostolic restoration that has taken place over the last several decades. There is a difference when an apostle leads than when a pastor leads. Here are some of the distinctions. The Apostolic Balance: One Flock and One Shepherd Pastors need apostles! Pastors are protectors. Apostles are acceptors! Pastors tend to segregate. Apostles tend to integrate. Pastors tend to build shelters. Apostles tend to build springboards (launching pads). Pastors tend to have a localized vision. Apostles tend to have a regional vision or beyond. Pastors like to focus on those already saved. Apostles have an ability to focus on all of mankind. Pastors are not normally fisherman but an apostle is also able to understand the ministry of the evangelist who has a heart for the lost, because their gift allows for it! Apostles desire to see the entire body of Christ everywhere walk in unity; however, pastors usually only have a desire to see their church walk in unity. This is why pastors serve a localized group of people, but apostles are sent to a region with a vision for the community and beyond! John 3:16 is very explicit that God Loves the entire world! Jesus also, speaking as an apostle, gave this exhortation in John 10: "I have other sheep who are not of this fold. I must also bring them, and they will hear My voice. There will be one flock and one shepherd" (v. 16). If we are going to see people saved and discipled in this imminent revival, then we are going to have to lay down our religious intolerances and judgments of worldly people. If we do not do this, the newborns will not feel the Love of God and we will lose them quickly! Feed My Sheep John 21:15-17 says: So when they had eaten breakfast, Jesus said to Simon Peter, "Simon, son of John, do you love Me more than these?" He said to Him, "Yes, Lord. You know that I love You." He said to him, "Feed My lambs." He said to him again a second time, "Simon, son of John, do you love Me?" He said to Him, "Yes, Lord. You know that I love You." He said to him, "Tend My sheep." He said to him the third time, "Simon, son of John, do you love Me?" Peter was grieved because He asked him the third time, "Do you love Me?" He said to Him, "Lord, You know everything. You know that I love You." Jesus said to him, "Feed My sheep." In my previous article, I pointed out that at the beginning of Peter's ministry, Jesus was preparing him to catch large numbers of men. In the chapter of the verses above, after Christ's Resurrection, Peter and some of the other disciples went back to fishing. They had once again taken in a huge catch of fish (John 21:1-14). As a father of five and a grandfather of 10, over the years I have developed some little fun-time things that I would do with them. One of those fun, playful things that became an ongoing habit is that I will grab their heads with my hands and begin to squeeze their skulls and repeatedly tell them that I was giving them a "Brain Adjustment!" That came to my mind as I was thinking about the rest of this passage of Scripture. You see, I know that personally over the years God has had to give me more than a few brain adjustments because my way of thinking was just not right! That is what Jesus is doing here with these disciples who were distraught and disoriented which led to them being disengaged with their call from God! Jesus was again watching from the shore to see what they were going to do with this great catch of fish. In fact, He had instigated it one more time (John 21:6). So He gets their attention and tells them to bring the catch to Him (v. 10). Then Jesus goes into the above discourse with Peter and hones in on some heart and mind issues that Peter was not wanting to address yet! Where is the focus of your love, Peter? "Do you love Me more than these?" You see many ministers today love the ministry more than the one who put them into the ministry and more than the ones that they are called to minister to! Fish Are Transformed Into Sheep Ministry is ultimately about sheep, and sheep are people! And not only are they people, but they are God's people! And God is concerned about all of His children both saved and unsaved and those who are being kept in someone else's sheepfold. Pastor's, I believe the Lord gave me a prophetic word for you: "Do you love the people of God more than the work that God has given you to do? Do you love the the miracles of salvation (people) more than the ministry of shepherding? Do you love Me more than you do fishing? And once you catch the fish, are you just going to throw them back or take them to market to sell off to the highest bidder? If you love Me, then you will love My people! And if you love My people then you will tend to their needs! Feed My sheep and tend My lambs!" The fishermen are about to deliver the fish into the sanctuaries of many churches! Will you be ready to disciple them?

Identity

Aloha Friends and Family,

IDENTITY 5/16/18

This is a really great article to consider. Like a snow flake or a cherry blossom you are the only soul on planet earth that will ever be like you. You are Unique, enjoy the person GOD made you to be in Christ Jesus. Learn to LOVE, living in your skin…. Open the gifts GOD has given you in faith. HIS Truth gives us Freedom to find HIM. ( Personally, I did not know, as a man, I was not supposed to ask for directions? lol.) But a very good friend and brother in Christ Jesus drove me 5 hours around Oakland, CA looking for a certain bakery because he would not ask for directions…. In a Helm’s Bread Truck with “Repent, The Kingdom is at hand. written in large letters across the front. 1970’s, But I could not get him to stop and ask directions. That was a test of our friendship.) In HIS great love, Ken<>< Why I'm OK With Being a Spiritual Misfit 10:00AM EDT 5/16/2018 J. Lee Grady It annoys me when Christians force people to fit in neat categories. For years we've done this with gender. I wish I had a dollar for every time a preacher has claimed that "all men hide their feelings" or "all women are domestic" or "all men refuse to ask for directions." Those are stereotypes. While God made only two genders, men and women come in all types. Our uniqueness is shaped by our bodies, skills, interests, personality quirks, communication styles, ethnicity, life experiences and so much more. Christians also love to fit people into personality types. The ancient Greek physician Hippocrates invented the concept of the "four temperaments"—choleric, sanguine, melancholy and phlegmatic. He believed the levels of our bodily fluids caused these traits (what?!) yet his theory stuck around even though it was totally unscientific. Christians started imposing these rigid personality types on each other after author Tim LaHaye wrote the book Transformed Temperaments in 1971. In the 1990s, family counselor Gary Smalley updated the concept of the four temperaments by describing them as animals: "Beaver," "lion," "otter" and "golden retriever." This began a cottage industry of "personality assessment" that continues to this day. It's based on the idea that every human being on Planet Earth fits into four groups. More recently, Christian organizations invented questionnaires and tests to determine a person's spiritual gifts. I've taken all of these tests, and sometimes they helped me understand myself better. Yet I always end up feeling like a misfit because I don't stay inside the lines. I certainly don't fit the stereotypes. For years I've struggled to put a label on what I do in ministry. Am I a prophet? (Prophecy often flows out of me when I minister in a church setting.) Am I a teacher? (I teach regularly in ministry schools.) Am I a pastor? (I don't lead a local church, yet I mentor and disciple many young leaders.) A few weeks ago I went through an identity crisis. I was tired of people asking me, "What are you?" and my response was to blankly stare back. I wanted a label. I wanted to fit in a clear-cut category. Yet I felt like a weirdo because I don't see my odd combination of gifts and talents in most surveys. I decided to take my own gifts assessment test by asking some friends to describe my ministry in their own words. I asked them to text me one sentence, but many of them wrote paragraphs. They often used words like "prophet," "teacher," "encourager," "apostle," "mentor" and "father's heart." But I noticed one common thread: Fernando said: "Your ministry is versatile. Don't worry about fitting in a box." Kent said: "Don't let people put you in a box." Ray said: "You don't need to feel any pressure to fit a mold." Grant said: "You can't be put in a box. There is too much 'cookie-cutter' identity in the church today." I wanted to categorize myself. But God's answer was a pleasant surprise: I don't need to fit in! Rather, I just need to stay connected to God and let Him manifest Himself though me however He wants! Many people follow horoscopes because they think their destiny is determined by which Zodiac sign they were born under. That's dumb, because people don't fit in 12 cosmic categories, much less four personality types. And even though there are a limited number of spiritual gifts listed in the Bible (the "power" gifts of 1 Corinthians 12 and the "motivational" gifts of Romans 12), these gifts come in an infinite number of combinations. Besides that, the "package" those gifts come in—you—is totally unique. Did you know that one DNA molecule in your body has enough coded information to fill 100 30-volume sets of encyclopedias? That's more than 2.25 million pages of computer code! If all the DNA in your body were joined from end to end, it would stretch 94 billion miles. And that code is different from any other person who has ever lived. We know our fingerprints are unique from everyone else. Now, researchers have discovered that scanning the iris of the eye is five times more effective than fingerprinting because there are 240 unique features in your iris to prove it's yours! Scientists are also discovering the same uniqueness in our retinas, our faces, our insulin and the protein molecules in one strand of our hair. David wrote: "I will give thanks to You, for I am fearfully and wonderfully made; wonderful are Your works, and my soul knows it very well" (Psalm 139:14, NASB). If you are this unique in a biological sense, how much more is it true in the Spirit? We have been fashioned by the Creator to manifest His power in a unique way. Don't be so eager to put a label on yourself. Don't try to be a copy of someone else. It's okay to break the mold. You can't be summarized, categorized or boxed in. You are a unique vessel of the Holy Spirit. Let Him flow through you without limitation

Why We Will Never See Revival Unless We Embrace the Holy Spirit
Mikel French, Stephen Kuert and Rebecca Moore

“What the world needs most today is Jesus, and what the church needs most today is the Holy Spirit.”

These words came from my friend Pastor Doug Chambers as we talked on the phone last week. It made me wonder if perhaps the world is more receptive to receive Jesus than the church is ready to embrace the move of the Holy Spirit.

Today as you read this I am in Izvesck, Russia, where hundreds of pastors have gathered from all across the nation. They are hungry for the power of the living God to refresh them to walk in dark and difficult places, planting and building churches while believing that nothing is impossible with God.

What God has done across this great nation of Russia is a miracle to the nations of the world. The church is open. They love God; they love Russia; and because of this, the harvest continues to grow. Many things have changed here, including the church, and it is clear the revival they are experiencing is a move of the Holy Spirit.

But Russia seems to be the exception to the rule in the body of Christ. Instead of inviting the Holy Spirit and embracing the life-changing revival and renewal that would come with Him, churches too often restrict His operation, which strips the power of God from both the individual and corporate fellowship and weakens the testimony of the church before a world that is lost and searching for a Savior. This is not what God intended when He sent the Holy Spirit to believers after Christ’s resurrection and ascension.

On the Day of Pentecost, when the crowd gathered around the apostles as they received the baptism of the Holy Spirit, the onlookers asked, “Whatever could this mean?” (Acts 2:12, author’s paraphrase). They recognized something different had been introduced, and some of them mistakenly assumed it was the result of new wine (v. 13). Instead, the presence of an almighty God had come to rock the city with change.

Changes that impact the world forever for the better can only come by the power of the Holy Spirit. When we examine any change—Holy Spirit–led or not—there are three factors we must consider:

the element of change
the amount of change
the container for change

All change begins with a new element. At Pentecost, the followers of Jesus were under the influence of the Holy Spirit. He was the new element that catalyzed a change that would forever impact the church of God. His power lit the fuse that ignited their own spirit and spread throughout the world and through generations.

The impact of any change is also directly related to the amount of the element of change that is introduced. You can introduce a little, which really brings little to no change, or you can pour out an amount of change that will blast everything from the past. When God poured out His Spirit on the believers gathered in the Upper Room—fulfilling the prophecy of the prophet Joel (Joel 2:28)—it filled up those gathered, but the impact was so great that after Peter explained what had happened to the onlookers, three thousand people decided to trust in Christ as their Savior that day alone (Acts 2:41). The apostles were filled with the Spirit to overflowing, and the radical change in their lives spilled over onto others.

This underscores the final point: when it comes to revival, we are the containers for change. We are the containers for the Holy Spirit to come in. Luke 5:37–38 says: “And no one puts new wine into old wineskins. Otherwise the new wine will burst the wineskins, and it will be spilled, and the wineskins will be destroyed. But new wine must be put into new wineskins, and both are preserved.”

We, the containers, must be new or renewed. We, as the containers, are common on our own but filled with uncommon power through the Holy Spirit. God gave us the gift of the Holy Spirit through Christ’s sacrifice so that we could both be conduits of His power and experience that transformative power in our own lives. Surrendering to the work of the Holy Spirit completely means surrendering to His will to change our lives and all that is around us. When we fail to invite Him fully into our hearts and lives, we prevent the very move of God that will change us and the world.

It’s time for the body of Christ around the world to surrender to the movement of the Holy Spirit in our lives and churches in the same way people in Russia are surrendering their lives to the Lord for the first time. Their hunger for God is intense and desperate. Today, be just as intense and desperate for God. Let Him hear you ask for more of Him, and be ready to receive all He has for you and the community you serve.

Finally, when you pray, please continue to intercede for the churches in Russia. Everything is changing but the harvest, and God is doing exciting things there, just as He will do in and through you.

You’re beautiful! I see Jesus in you. Have a great week!
