BAPTISM WITH/IN THE HOLY SPIRIT
BAPTISM, FILLED/WITH THE HOLY SPIRIT, “WORTH CONSIDERING” 7/23/21 Ken<><
Baptism = to Immerse, Whelm, Saturate. Need context to know what is immersed in what? We will be covering this topic on our Tuesday evening Bible Fellowship from 5:30 till about 7:30 with a “Pot-Blessing.” Some come if you can? 85-4554 Mamalahoa Hwy. So. Captain Cook, HI 96704 (Kealia)
And make straight paths for your feet, lest that which is lame be turned out of the way; but let it rather be healed. 14 Follow peace with all men, and holiness, without which no man shall see the Lord: 15 Looking diligently lest any man fail of the grace of God; lest any root of bitterness springing up trouble you, and thereby many be defiled; Heb. 12:13-15
Matt. 3:10-12, “And now also the axe is laid unto the root of the trees: therefore every tree which bringeth not forth good fruit is hewn down, and cast into the fire. 11 I indeed baptize you with water unto repentance. but he that cometh after me is mightier than I, whose shoes I am not worthy to bear::he shall baptize you with the Holy Ghost, and with fire 12 Whose fan is in his hand, and he will throughly purge his floor, and gather his wheat into the garner; but he will burn up the chaff with unquenchable fire. ( Also fits for the pre-tribulation Rapture.)
So when did GOD’S Salvation become effective for HIS CHURCH?
John 20:15-23, “ Then the same day at evening, being the first day of the week, when the doors were shut where the disciples were assembled for fear of the Jews, came Jesus and stood in the midst, and saith unto them, Peace be unto you. 20 And when he had so said, he shewed unto them his hands and his side. Then were the disciples glad, when they saw the Lord. 21 Then said Jesus to them again, Peace be unto you: as my Father hath sent me, even so send I you. 22 And when he had said this, he breathed on them, and saith unto them, Receive ye the Holy Ghost: 23 Whose soever sins ye remit, they are remitted unto them; and whose soever sins ye retain, they are retained.
Acts 1:4-5, “And, being assembled together with them, commanded them that they should not depart from Jerusalem, but wait for the promise of the Father, which, saith he, ye have heard of me. 5 For John truly baptized with water; but ye shall be baptized with the Holy Ghost not many days hence.”
Acts 1:8, But ye shall receive power, after that the Holy Ghost is come upon you: and ye shall be witnesses unto me both in Jerusalem, and in all Judaea, and in Samaria, and unto the uttermost part of the earth. Luke 11:11-13, “If a son shall ask bread of any of you that is a father, will he give him a stone? or if he ask a fish, will he for a fish give him a serpent? 12 Or if he shall ask an egg, will he offer him a scorpion? 13 If ye then, being evil, know how to give good gifts unto your children: how much more shall your heavenly Father give the Holy Spirit to them that ask him?
Acts 2:4, “And they were all filled with the Holy Ghost, and began to speak with other tongues, as the Spirit gave them utterance.” Acts 2:38, “Then Peter said unto them, Repent, and be baptized every one of you in the name of Jesus Christ for the remission of sins, and ye shall receive the gift of the Holy Ghost.” The Real Church: 1 Cor. 14:26-33, Eph.4:11.
There are two ministries of the Holy Spirit among many that are very important to us: The Breath of Life for our salvation and in our obedience the Power of God to do HIS will.
So where in the New Testament do we see the example of this? First in Samaria with Philip in Acts 8:12, “But when they believed Philip preaching the things concerning the kingdom of God, and the name of Jesus Christ, they were baptized, both men and women. Acts 8:14-17, “Now when the apostles which were at Jerusalem heard that Samaria had received the word of God, they sent unto them Peter and John: 15 Who, when they were come down, prayed for them, that they might receive the Holy Ghost: 16 (For as yet he was fallen upon none of them: only they were baptized in the name of the Lord Jesus.) 17 Then laid they their hands on them, and they received the Holy Ghost.
And with Paul the same thing. Acts 8:4, “And he fell to the earth, and heard a voice saying unto him, Saul, Saul, why persecutest thou me? 5 And he said, Who art thou, Lord? And the Lord said, I am Jesus whom thou persecutest: it is hard for thee to kick against the pricks. 6 And he trembling and astonished said, Lord, what wilt thou have me to do? (So Saul became Paul here and was saved, Rom.10:9-10. And then 3 days later: Acts 8:17, “And Ananias went his way, and entered into the house; and putting his hands on him said, Brother Saul, the Lord, even Jesus, that appeared unto thee in the way as thou camest, hath sent me, that thou mightest receive thy sight, and be filled with the Holy Ghost.
And again with the disciples of Apollos, Acts 19:2, “He said unto them, Have ye received the Holy Ghost since ye believed? And they said unto him, We have not so much as heard whether there be any Holy Ghost…4Then said Paul, John verily baptized with the baptism of repentance, saying unto the people, that they should believe on him which should come after him, that is, on Christ Jesus. 5 When they heard this, they were baptized in the name of the Lord Jesus. 6 And when Paul had laid his hands upon them, the Holy Ghost came on them; and they spake with tongues, and prophesied.
GREAT QUOTES on Holiness: (“Without which, no man shall see the LORD.”
“You know, we live in a day when we are more afraid of holiness than we are of sinfulness.”
-Leonard Ravenhill “Holiness, not happiness, is the chief end of man.”-Oswald Chambers
“True holiness is not achieved by what we do, but what we allow God to do in us.” -Mark Hart
“Holiness is not the way to Christ. Christ is the way to holiness.” -Adrian Rogers “God has one destined end for mankind – holiness! His one aim is the production of saints. God is not an eternal blessing- machine for men. He did not come to save men out of pity. He came to save men because He had created them to be holy.” -Oswald Chambers “If you think you can walk in holiness without keeping up perpetual fellowship with Christ, you have made a great mistake. If you would be holy, you must live close to Jesus.”-Charles Spurgeon “Holiness has never been the driving force of the majority. It is, however, mandatory for anyone who wants to enter the kingdom.”-Elisabeth Elliot “Many Christians have what we might call a ‘cultural holiness.’ They adapt to the character and behavior pattern of Christians around them… But God has not called us to be like those around us. He has called us to be like Himself. Holiness is nothing less than conformity to the character of God.” -Jerry Bridges “Do not expect to grow in holiness if you spend little time alone with God and do not take His Word seriously.” -Joel Beeke prophetic@revivalschool.com
