GRACE OF GOD, “WORTH CONSIDERING” 6/19/20 From Ken<><
Today’s Scripture (Across my desk this morning from Texas.)
“…How great is the goodness you have stored up for those who fear you. You lavish it on those who come to you for protection, blessing them before the watching world…” (Ps. 31:19, NLT)
How Great is His Goodness
King David said, “What would have happened to me if I had not believed to see the goodness of God?” I wonder how many blessings we’re missing out on, how much favor, how much increase we’re not seeing simply because we’re not expecting it. We’re not releasing our faith.
Right now there are blessings that have your name on them. There is promotion stored up, healing stored up, vindication stored up, a house stored up. God has already destined them to be yours. But if you think, I’ll never get married. I’ll never pay my house off. I’ve made too many mistakes. God would never bless me, that is going to keep you from God’s best. Why don’t you try a different approach and say, “God, I believe You have some surprises in my future. I believe I’ll see Your goodness in a new way.” When you live with this expectancy, that’s when God will give you something to talk about.
A Prayer for Today
Father, thank You for Your goodness and the many blessings You have stored up for me. Thank You that when I keep You first place and honor You that blessings will chase me down and overtake me. I believe You have some surprises in my future. In Jesus’ Name, Amen.
Ken’s Thoughts,
Actually, we usually blame God for our reaping of the flesh. We do rebellious and stupid stuff and have a bad outcome eventually and wonder why God did not fix it. We tend to totally forget God until we get into trouble in the negative use of our own freewill. And then with tears go to God to fix the mess that we made. There is an immutable cosmic law of what we sow, we reap. I have had young ladies come to me in total repentance for getting pregnant and as yet have never seen the child disappear. I got married at 22 before I became a Christian and made Jesus LORD. It was the wrong thing to do, took 17 years to finally get most of the weeds pulled from what I had sowed. So God’s Love and Grace is eternal but we do have a freewill that needs to be trained to know good from bad and we need God’s Grace to help us when we choose humility and obedience over pride and rebellion.
So God’s Goodness and Grace is our experience when we learn to start making righteous decisions. And some of the weeds we allowed to be planted when we were Adams kids may take a long time to pull. Paul even alluded to the need to die to the world, flesh and devil every day in 1 Cor.15:31 “I protest by your rejoicing which I have in Christ Jesus our Lord, I die daily.” And again in Romans 8:5-16 “ 5 For they that are after the flesh do mind the things of the flesh; but they that are after the Spirit the things of the Spirit. 6 For to be carnally minded is death; but to be spiritually minded is life and peace. 7 Because the carnal mind is enmity against God: for it is not subject to the law of God, neither indeed can be. 8 So then they that are in the flesh cannot please God. 9 But ye are not in the flesh, but in the Spirit, if so be that the Spirit of God dwell in you. Now if any man have not the Spirit of Christ, he is none of his. 10 And if Christ be in you, the body is dead because of sin; but the Spirit is life because of righteousness. 11 But if the Spirit of him that raised up Jesus from the dead dwell in you, he that raised up Christ from the dead shall also quicken your mortal bodies by his Spirit that dwelleth in you. 12 Therefore, brethren, we are debtors, not to the flesh, to live after the flesh. 13 For if ye live after the flesh, ye shall die: but if ye through the Spirit do mortify (put to death) the deeds of the body, ye shall live. 14 For as many as are led by the Spirit of God, they are the sons of God. 15 For ye have not received the spirit of bondage again to fear; but ye have received the Spirit of adoption, whereby we cry, Abba, Father. 16 The Spirit itself beareth witness with our spirit, that we are the children of God:” So every day in order to stay under God’s Grace in humility and obedience we must die to the lusts of the flesh, lusts of the eyes and pride of life each and every day of our lives. This is really what it means to make Christ Jesus, LORD! But it is to grow up in HIM in all things, a process.
Horatio Gates Spafford was a 43-year-old Chicago Businessman who suffered financial disaster in the great Chicago fire of 1871. He and his wife, still grieving the death of their son who had died shortly before the fire, were in great need of a retreat, and decided to take their remaining children to England for a vacation. So Spafford arranged to send his wife and four daughters ahead of him on the SS Ville du Havre. He planned to follow in a few days. During the voyage on the Atlantic Ocean, the Ville du Havre was struck by an iron sailing vessel and sank within 12 minutes. Two hundred twenty-six lives were lost – including the Spafford’s four daughters. When the survivors were brought to shore at Cardiff, Wales, Mrs. Spafford cabled her husband two words: “Saved alone.” Spafford booked passage on the next ship. As they were crossing the Atlantic the captain pointed out the place where he thought the Ville du Havre had gone down. That night, Spafford penned the following words: Spafford lost his business and his children but found comfort in His savior.

Whatever my lot, Thou hast taught me to say; It is well, it is well with my soul.

The UK’s National Institute for Health Research (NIHR) has announced a “major breakthrough” in the treatment of patients who are seriously ill with COVID-19. On Twitter Tuesday the NIHR said a RECOVERY trial it supported showed that the steroid dexamethasone “significantly reduces” the risk of dying for coronavirus patients requiring respiratory intervention. The U.S. Supreme Court blocked President Trump from ending the Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals program, or DACA, which shields from deportation hundreds of thousands of immigrant children who were brought to the United States illegally. The Pacific Justice Institute (PJI) announced on Wednesday that a San Francisco area federal court ruled that churches have no place in the dynamic downtown area of one northern California city.
