POWER

POWER,   “WORTH CONSIDERING”   5/3/19   (Across my desk this morning.)

Today’s Scripture
“Then He arose and rebuked the wind, and said to the sea, ‘Peace, be still!’ And the wind ceased and there was a great calm.”

A Prayer for Today
“Father in heaven, thank You for filling me with Your Holy Spirit and for giving me Your authority here on the earth. Today I declare peace over every area of my life and thank You for working things out for my good. In Jesus’ Name.”

My thoughts:
When a young Christian I found support in one of the denominations.  And like most denominations I was feed the polity and dogma that made them seem to be top drawer.  One of the doctrines was that the age of the supernatural had passed as we now had the Word of God.  But I still saw the needs around me for healing and deliverance.  Or we would have prayer for the sick and no one really had the faith the there would be a healing.   But then I started really reading the Bible for my self for a change,  It was amazing.  In fact Paul even gives us a prophesy about the “last days” in 2 Timothy 3.  And it seems to me that Paul knew much in prophesy concerning the “last days” as his letters to the churches are full of last day information and guidance.  So that doctrine was false but then if we do have the God’s Power to help with the needs how do we make it work.  Paul taught that if there was no evidence of God’s Power to go some place else.

I have come to see the power of faith is like the electrons in a battery.  When they are placed there in the battery nothing happens until a contact is made that is compatible with the flow of the electrons.  Then they are released to do the work set before them.  Of course a single battery has uses but if you want to power a house you need to get a bunch of batteries and connect them together so that they can work together as a team.  It is also interesting that one battery in backwards can short out any number of batteries from doing their work.  So start thinking about faith as a battery being charged.   And about fellowship as batteries being connected for the greater works that Jesus talked about us doing.  And I sometime reflect about Jesus going to minister in Nazerath,  Matt 13:53-58  ⁵³ And it came to pass, that when Jesus had finished these parables, he departed thence.  ⁵⁴ And when he was come into his own country, he taught them in their synagogue, insomuch that they were astonished, and said, Whence hath this man this wisdom, and these mighty works?   Is not this the carpenter’s son? is not his mother called Mary? and his brethren, James, and Joses, and Simon, and Judas?  ⁵⁶ And his sisters, are they not all with us? Whence then hath this man all these things?  ⁵⁷ And they were offended in him. But Jesus said unto them, A prophet is not without honour, save in his own country, and in his own house.  ⁵⁸ And he did not many mighty works there because of their unbelief.

This is a profoundly interesting study and another verse that catches my attention is John 17:21: (Glory and Power are the same thought.)  Notice that it teaches “that they may be one” here.  As an event that must yet come to pass or to happen.

²¹ That they all may be one, [just] as You, Father, are in Me and I in You, that they also may be one in Us, so that the world may believe and be convinced that You have sent Me.  ²² I have given to them the glory and honor which You have given Me, that they may be one [even] as We are one:  ²³ I in them and You in Me, in order that they may become one and perfectly united, that the world may know and [definitely] recognize that You sent Me and that You have loved them [even] as You have loved Me.
