6 PM, Holy Trinity Lutheran Church †††
by Ken Smith†† 896-8937
Three weeks ago we considered Truth.† Then 2 weeks ago we considered the Truth in Love.† This week we proceed to consider Unity and is it important and unity on what level.† Are there levels of Unity.† On what level is the power of the Holy Spirit released for Evangelism as in Acts.† Some passages in Acts concerning unity: 1/14, 2/1, 2/41-44, 4/24, 4/32,13/2-3, 14/22, 15/22-25, 17/11-12, It seems that when the Holy Spirit was active in power, unity was a key factor.
It is obvious that our Lord Jesus Christ came to give us Godís TRUTH... In order to set us FREE.† But only in Love can that TRUTH be explored..††† And as that TRUTH is shared in love it will allow for TRUE UNITY and OBEDIENCE.†† This in turn will allow us to enter true holiness and accountability which will release the Holy Spirit to heal and deliver as needed for the Glory of our Lord Jesus Christ.† James:5:13-18.† (The Book of James is a concentrated book on healing.)
Scriptures concerning unity.
Gen.11:6-9 (King James Version)†† 6And the LORD said, Behold, the people is one, and they have all one language; and this they begin to do: and now nothing will be restrained from them, which they have imagined to do. ††7Go to, let us go down, and there confound their language, that they may not understand one another's speech.†† 8So the LORD scattered them abroad from thence upon the face of all the earth: and they left off to build the city.†† 9Therefore is the name of it called Babel; because the LORD did there confound the language of all the earth: and from thence did the LORD scatter them abroad upon the face of all the earth.
John 17†† 1These words spake Jesus, and lifted up his eyes to heaven, and said, Father, the hour is come; glorify thy Son, that thy Son also may glorify thee: ...† thou hast given me; for they are thine.† 10And all mine are thine, and thine are mine; and I am glorified in them.† 11And now I am no more in the world, but these are in the world, and I come to thee. Holy Father, keep through thine own name those whom thou hast given me, that they may be one, as we are.... 18As thou hast sent me into the world, even so have I also sent them into the world. 19And for their sakes I sanctify myself, that they also might be sanctified through the truth. †20Neither pray I for these alone, but for them also which shall believe on me through their word;† 21That they all may be one; as thou, Father, art in me, and I in thee, that they also may be one in us: that the world may believe that thou hast sent me.
22And the glory which thou gavest me I have given them; that they may be one, even as we are one:† 23I in them, and thou in me, that they may be made perfect in one; ...

then make my joy complete by being like-minded, having the same love, being one in spirit and purpose.
1 Corinthians 12:3-31 (King James Version)†† ... 12For as the body is one, and hath many members, and all the members of that one body, being many, are one body: so also is Christ.†† 13For by one Spirit are we all baptized into one body, whether we be Jews or Gentiles, whether we be bond or free; and have been all made to drink into one Spirit.†† 14For the body is not one member, but many.†† 15If the foot shall say, Because I am not the hand, I am not of the body; is it therefore not of the body?†† 16And if the ear shall say, Because I am not the eye, I am not of the body; is it therefore not of the body?† 17If the whole body were an eye, where were the hearing? If the whole were hearing, where were the smelling?† 18But now hath God set the members every one of them in the body, as it hath pleased him.† 19And if they were all one member, where were the body?† 20But now are they many members, yet but one body.† 21And the eye cannot say unto the hand, I have no need of thee: nor again the head to the feet, I have no need of you.† 22Nay, much more those members of the body, which seem to be more feeble, are necessary: ... 25That there should be no schism in the body; but that the members should have the same care one for another. †26And whether one member suffer, all the members suffer with it; or one member be honoured, all the members rejoice with it.† 27Now ye are the body of Christ, and members in particular.†† 28And God hath set some in the church, first apostles, secondarily prophets, thirdly teachers, after that miracles, then gifts of healings, helps, governments, diversities of tongues.† 29Are all apostles? are all prophets? are all teachers? are all workers of miracles?† 30Have all the gifts of healing? do all speak with tongues? do all interpret?...
Ephesians 4:1-16 (King James Version)† 1I therefore, the prisoner of the Lord, beseech you that ye walk worthy of the vocation wherewith ye are called,†† 2With all lowliness and meekness, with longsuffering, forbearing one another in love;†† 3Endeavouring to keep the unity of the Spirit in the bond of peace. ††4There is one body, and one Spirit, even as ye are called in one hope of your calling;†† 5One Lord, one faith, one baptism,†† 6One God and Father of all, who is above all, and through all, and in you all.†† 7But unto every one of us is given grace according to the measure of the gift of Christ.†† 8Wherefore he saith, When he ascended up on high, he led captivity captive, and gave gifts unto men.† 9(Now that he ascended, what is it but that he also descended first into the lower parts of the earth? 10He that descended is the same also that ascended up far above all heavens, that he might fill all things.)† 11And he gave some, apostles; and some, prophets; and some, evangelists; and some, pastors and teachers;† 12For the perfecting of the saints, for the work of the ministry, for the edifying of the body of Christ: 13Till we all come in the unity of the faith, and of the knowledge of the Son of God, unto a perfect man, unto the measure of the stature of the fulness of Christ:† 14That we henceforth be no more children, tossed to and fro, and carried about with every wind of doctrine, by the sleight of men, and cunning craftiness, whereby they lie in wait to deceive;† 15But speaking the truth in love, may grow up into him in all things, which is the head, even Christ:† 16From whom the whole body fitly joined together and compacted by that which every joint supplieth, according to the effectual working in the measure of every part, maketh increase of the body unto the edifying of itself in love.
